The song “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” is an enjoyable British music hall song and was written in 1912. It became a popular song among soldiers in WWI. The song refers to the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The song has been used in many different movies, like the 1970 musical Darling Lili in which it was sung by Julie Andrews, and in Me and My Gal from 1942, starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. The song was sung by the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show as they march off-screen in the series' final episode. Who knows this song? Who has seen the final episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show? I found that last scene on YouTube for those who enjoyed the show and are nostalgic.

I know the song, I know the show and I watched that last episode. The series is set in Minneapolis. Not many shows used Minneapolis as a backdrop. Living there at the time, I followed the series from beginning to end. I watched two of the three spin offs from the show. Rhoda and Lou Grant. I never watched Phyllis. I loved that show.

This is a great song and was always a favourite in a sing-song around the piano.
