24.08.2025 Why and how I found myself in the “local church”

As I opened myself many discussions ago, I was once a miserable drunk. I suffered but struggled hard for over one and a half decades before successfully winning the battle. Quitting drinking demanded a lifestyle adjustment. There were places and people I had to train myself to avoid at all costs. Yet as you all now, no man is an island; we all need association. My reputation was bad, so I couldn’t just walk into any church, yet church seemed the simplest starting place to find “affordable belongingness”. Again, most modern churches had pissed me off for having very loud or noisy services. (I came to learn later that when you quit drinking, you’re likely to go into a phase where anything loud – whether a sound or bang will disturb you emotionally since you will be experiencing withdrawal.) So, I began roaming on Sundays – looking for a quieter or say less noisy church, which I found within a couple of months. It is local is such a way that we use drums and other local instruments and not piano keyboards and loudspeakers that dominate many church services around. I was slowly integrated and as at now I am glad I find great companionship and interaction in there. So, on Sundays after morning farm work and chores, I rush there for a service that lasts two to three hours. I then get to the cyber hoping to do some work but if there isn’t much to be done, I leave early and use the late Sunday evening for a farm patrol. It is during the patrol that I make records and projection hence track the progress…

The pastor or priests don't judge but the people sure do. That is sad. I'm glad you found a quieter church that you feel comfortable in.
