Border Collie is quite an intelligent dog

This is a sad story. My colleague had a Border Collie and his name was Panda. Lately my colleague had a journey for three days. Then she put Panda to a pet store during the leave. She even brouoght Panda's own food to the store and told to the staff some notes. Then she just left without speaking a word to Panda. As she was afraid Panda would keep barking if she didn't leave right away. Then in the second day early morning she received a call from the pet store and told her that Panda died. This was a shocking for everyone. The video shows Panda opened his cage, then even open the door but he couldn't open the front door as it's locked. He walked around the pet store and looked at everywhere. He even opened the cage and set free two parrots. Finally he might understand he could not get out and then he slept on the ground. And the staff found he was dead when they went to work. Panda was about 7 years old and didn't have serious healthy problems. Nobody knows why he died so suddenly. I said perhaps he thought my colleague didn't want him and Panda died because of heart broken. I told my colleague that she should tell Panda that staying in the pet store was a temperary plan only as they had a journey. Panda would go home soon. This is not silly to speak to animals, especially Border Collie is so smart. If Panda knew the truth, perhaps he would behave well and wait for my colleague to pick him up. He was not abandoned. Don't think animals can not understand us, I do think they can understand us. The attached image is Panda.

How very sad. She should have let him know she was leaving. Perhaps he did die of a broken heart. I think animals understand.

Dogs are more sensitive than human. Panda was hurt when his owner left him without talking to him. I always tell my Dog Kittu when I go shopping that I'll be back soon. Dogs easily feel neglected.

You are right. Dogs are smarter than we think.

That is very, very sad but what a lovely photo of Panda. Maybe she should have made a fuss of Panda rather than going off so abruptly. Seven years isn't a bad age for the bigger breeds or so I believe.

I agree that 7 years old is not an old age for a big size dog yet.

Animals can indeed sense our emotions and intentions. Communicating with Panda may have helped ease his anxiety. I hope your colleague finds comfort in the memories they made together with Panda.

I think so. Unfortunately time can't go back itself.
