Gone are the days neighbours behaved like neighbours There is no difference now between those we know who live far away and them. It is only when I invite them that I see them and that happens only once a year. They will neither phone nor visit. There is pin drop silcence here when it comes to interaction. Hw is it with you?

That's getting so common these days. People hardly know and care about neighbors. Things have become cold and so formal. I have few neighbors who are my walking friends. We walk together and that's all for the interactions..Else we meet for events, festival celebrations etc.

@allknowing That is the story everywhere. However, in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, we still get to see it staying some bit like old days. It's not so cold yet.

I recall a Chinese saying - a good neighbor is better than a distant relative. I think the spirit of neighborliness is a thing of the past.

When you live and grow old in the same community it is always fun and chaotic... That's why my sister and I do not want to move to another city, because for sure our parents will be sad, they will surely miss their friends and family in our old community.

Once when one gets married or seeks greener pastures for survival one has to leave the old community

That sounds just like how I prefer neighbors to act. I don't know any of our neighbors by name except the older couple living next-door and I only know their first names because my brother went to school with them and told us. We talk with them if we see them in the yard and otherwise, we don't have a reason to talk with them. I couldn't even tell you the last name of anyone on our street. Not even the older couple next-door. There isn't a reason to know their names as far as I can tell.

It's time the title neighbours should now change as they are in all respects strangers Having said that we have had occasions to interact when there were children around There was a lot of interaction then

@allknowing We don't have any children at our house. I guess I could have run the kids over instead of telling them to get out of my driveway.

Maybe because we live in a gated community, it's a little bit different here. We are friends with our neighbouts and we could call on them for help if we needed it.

That set up where you live is designed to live together so to say going by the various and frequent activities you have. .

@allknowing Yes, that's true. It's easier here to make friends and contacts that in a suburb.
