Do You Ever Wish You'd Asked?

I had a good relationship with my mother, grandmother, etc. both paternal and maternal though I was closer to my maternal side. I remember conversations and stories they told me. But now, looking back, sometimes I wish I would have asked about different times in their lives and different situations they went through. When I was young, I didn't think about those and now I am. I miss the times that I had with them and their influence in my life. I guess it is natural to wish you could have just one more conversation, or one more interaction. Do you ever think this way? Parents and grandparents are so special, and I have lost them all. I do have some wonderful memories though and am happy about that.

I wish very much to have more conversations with them. I have lost all of mine too.

There are times that I really miss my grandmother. She was like a mom to me growing up. Mom worked so much. I loved living there and have so many fond memories of my childhood. I hope you do as well.

@celticeagle I was very close with my maternal grandma. We lost her in 1982. It seems like eternity.

Yes. My Dad acted and looked like a cowboy. He said he was a farmboy and his Dad raised Percheron draft horses for their farm in Ilinois. I wish I knew more of Dad's journey out West- did he really break broncs in Montana and was he a cook and a logger?? I also have huge chunks of missing story from the lady I was named after. And on I go.....

Your dad sounds like quite the adventurer. I bet that lady you were named after had an interesting life.

@celticeagle I will always feel a jolt of pain with the woman. It's like being adopted and finding your brith family but the birth family wants nothing to do with you.

I have heard quite a lot of stories from my family, I guess the one thing I am most grateful for that the sixth sense my family had with contact to the world beyond passed on to me, It is of a comfort to me,

My grandmother had that, and though I don't have my grandson seems to.

Quite often something pops up and I find myself wishing I could talk to my Mum about it.

Yes. Even though my father disowned me, I never asked about how he and my mother met or what their wedding was like or what it was like to live in Italy.
