I understand celebrating arrival of Ganesh. I don't understand why we celebrate his departure.

@Kusumakrishna If Chaturthi is his arrival or birthday, we are all happy. Here, on Nimarjan day they dance, make loud noises. I would feel bad if god left me. Feel helpless. Its like oh welcome cousin. What gifts did you bring me from the US? Once the gifts are opened, now you go. Come again next year with another gift. I don't like nimarjan day at all. It makes me feel so selfish and uncaring. And suddenly helpless. As long as he is around, I am confident, nothing will go wrong. He will right all wrongs. Once he leaves, I am on my own. That kinda feeling. I hope you understand.

@vandana7 Yes I got you.when I were in childhood I too felt the same as you. But some elders told me that ganesh do not like it if his devotees are sad.He always wanted us to chill and dance infront of him.especially during his nimarjan ritual we all feel like missing him.because we pray and pamper the idol with offerings these 9days when he suddenly leaves us we feel sad right. To overcome this ganesh wanted us to send him heartfully with smiles.I heard that from elders. Not only on nimarjan..Normally ganesh doesn't bear his devotees feeling low in front of him However the situations are.. He always wanted us to smile in his premises If we feel low or cry He doesn't even have a look for them. But I didnot understand the logic here.when something badly disturbing us we pray to god for support How can we still smile? But going with the flow

I only know small parts of Hindu festivals... My Indian brother tells me about them as well as my friend, @vandana7. I hope you're having a good time!
