I can't believe it has been so long! Back in the day I was still in college and working at the local boardwalk. I was working as a "carnie" in the stands of a famous local arcade on the boards. Back in those days I'd work until like 1am and then do a couple of hours at a boardwalk bar. Man I don't even know how I had that kind of stamina. Anyway I remember someone stopping by the stand at like midnight telling me that Diana had died. I simply couldn't believe it. This was before the days of smartphones. I finally got back home, turned on the TV, and saw that it was true. I was absolutely shocked as was most of the world. This happened a month before I was set to start my junior year of college (they call it "university") abroad in England. Off I went to England in late September. My mother didn't pay much attention to where I was going so in her mind I was in London. Um no I was 5 hours north of London by car. I didn't see the massive outpouring of grief for Diana. I did get the UK stamps honoring her and the Princess Beanie Baby. After the divorce from now-King Charles she was called Diana, Princess of Wales. The former queen stripped her of her HRH (Her Royal Highness) title and she no longer could be called "Princess Diana". She fought like hell during the divorce process to keep the title though. It is kind of like Meghan Markle being the Duchess of Sussex. She isn't Princess Meghan. I can't believe it has been so many years. It feels like it was just yesterday. Sleep well Diana. You truly were the Queen of people's hearts as you wanted to be.

She had such a profound effect on so many in our world. I remember my husband and I had just come home from a huge pig roast end of summer party, and we were just changing to go and sit outside for a while before going to bed. I turned the bedroom TV on while I was changing my clothes and I saw the ticker tape news come across the bottom of the screen. Sadly we lost Mother Thresea just days afterwards, both were practiced such generous humanitarian habits. I think that both would be disgusted at the state of the world today, and the lack of caring.

I remember that day. I was visiting my mother in Italy, I remember that she started to cry and used the red paper napkin on the table making a mess on her face.
