There’s a fine rain falling from a cloudless, apricot sky this morning as I emerge from my slumbers to wish my wife a happy forty first wedding anniversary. A somewhat callithumpian choir of crowing cocks greeted us with their version of the hallelujah chorus in honour of our achievement and I must say I’m feeling rather smug with myself at being able to hold onto the one woman for this long.
