Well, my kind neighbour gave me four cherry tomato plants earlier in the year….i gave one to my next door neighbour, leaving me with three plants. That would be okay I thought as the same neighbour had given me plants last year too. However, these must be different varieties as all three plants have been absolutely loaded with fruit. We have been picking them every day but we just can’t eat them all. Many have already been given away to friends, but there are still hundreds on the plants and still they keep a growing. I looked at the plants this morning and I have decided that I need to make some soup and also some chutney. I really don’t want any tomatoes to be wasted and this way I can still be using them for a few more months yet …. Any other ideas as to what I can do with the extra tomatoes ?

When we were getting way too many cherry tomatoes a few years ago, I started cutting them in half and dehydrating them. I still have bags full of dehydrated tomatoes. We use them in stews, soups and I fry them with eggs every so often.

Brilliant idea ….how do you store them once they are dehydrated ? Just in sealed bags ? In a cupboard ?

@Traceyjayne I put them into sealed Ziploc baggies and then put the baggies into closed Tupperware containers. I've got a bunch of baggies of tomatoes, baggies of sweet peppers, baggies of white, red and yellow onions, baggies of green onions, baggies of radishes, baggies of celery... Dried veggies last forever as long as you don't let them get wet.

@DaddyEvil do you have a dehydrating machine or do them in the oven ? I was going to try in the air fryer ….

On one hand you're lucky that those plants have really given you lots of tomatoes but I can see where it would be hard to eat them all. Giving some away helps and making soup is a good idea. At least you can freeze soup for future days

This time of year there is always a glut of tomatoes. No one knows what to do with them all. You could can some tomato sauce or make some ketchup.
