As I have been posting over the last few weeks, some may be aware that my cherry tomato plant have gone wild this year. We pick loads every day but simply can not keep up with how many are growing. We only have three plants too. We have given a lot away.
I am planning on making soup, although it’s only me that likes tomato soup. Some will be frozen but I still don’t need loads.
I am thinking of green tomato chutney. I made some a few years ago and it was delicious.
However, I was given another idea ….dehydrate them.
I shall try this in the next few days when I am back home. I am just about to pick my latest stash of them.
I plan on dehydrating them in the air fryer….ive never dehydrated anything before so please give me any tips you may have.
Also , please, wish me luck.

I don't know the dehydrating process. Please tell what do you do by dehydrating them. Today I am going to prepare tomato pickle .For that I am going to dehydrate them by some cooking process .After which I do pickle with that.

I'd puree them, cook them down, and then freeze for future tomato sauces but that is the Italian-American in me. I hate sundried tomatoes.
I love this recipe from Ina Garten for tomato bisque. It calls for canned crushed tomatoes but I bet you could use fresh pureed and cooked down a bit. I've never added saffron b/c I'm not paying that crazy price. It is absolutely delicious! If you aren't going to eat it all at once cook the orzo separately and add it when you reheat.

I'm the only person in my family who likes fresh tomatoes, believe it or not. They are fine with cooked ones though so I use them to make sauces for pasta and pizza. In the past I have made a savoury bread-and-butter pudding with left-over ham sandwiches and cherry tomatoes. Tomato risotto is nice too. And of course I have made various chutneys with tomatoes plus apples, chillies or various other produce. I made green tomato ketchup too, about three years ago. The girls won't eat it though and we don't eat ketchup all that much so I still have plenty more in the cupboard!

@Traceyjayne Yes, I made it pretty much like the sweet version but without the sugar.

Good luck! Hope it works well. I have only ever dehydrated grapes a few years ago to make our own sultanas. That worked well but was only worthwhile really because at that time we had a huge 'always on' gas range, an Aga-type thing, so the warm oven was just perfect for that. Now we no longer have it so I would have to turn the oven on especially - and it wouldn't really work because this annoying oven will only heat if the door is fully closed, and of course the moisture needs to be allowed to escape!
I'm thinking of making a dehydrator with one of those low wattage tube heaters and an antique meat safe!

I wish you luck. I've never dried any fruits or vegetables so can't offer any advice.

I've only dehydrated with an actual dehydrator. I have no idea when it comes to the air fryer. Good luck.
