Watching Homes under the hammer

So if you have not seen this programme, basically what happens is, they follow the renovation of a house. The houses are up for auction and they follow that process. They are usually in a state of disrepair. They then show you around the houses and talk to the new owners. They explain what they are going to do, how much money they plan to spend, and how long they think it will take them to do the work. Sometimes they plan to sell the property on, other times they plan to rent out …..but ….the big question is ….will they get their money back ….will they make a profit ! I love watching this programme as I am , usually, amazed at the changes and updates they make to the properties. Is this your sort of programme ? Is this a project you have taken in ? Or would like to take on in the future ?

We have a Mylotter here who absolutely loves this show. It doesn’t air in the United States on any of my channels, but I would watch it. I’ve seen similar problems. My dad kind of did that with his current house when he and my late mother moved in 27 years ago. The previous owner had trashed the house after the bank foreclosed on it, so they got the worst house in a really good neighborhood. Even the sheet rock was torn. My dad, in his spare time, worked on the hose, and my mom did what little she could (bad health). The only thing they were able to keep was the kitchen cabinets and the kitchen counters. But they did it! The kitchen counters were finally replaced last year, rightly so, after my dad and stepmom saved up. They needed to go. They also replaced the flooring in the house.

I think you are talking about our Shazza, @SharonElton. I haven’t seen her post in a while but she absolutely loves Homes under the Hammer.

I would love to be able to do it myself …but time is an issue at the moment. Your Dad and late Mom were able to completely make it their own house and that’s the great part about it ….you do need a blank canvas to work on.

Even those of us who don't watch house remodeling normally have heard of that program. One myLotter talks about it all the time. Once in a while, when we're waiting in a doctor's office, programs like that are on in the waiting room. I'm usually reading an ebook on my phone but I still hear some of the program anyway. When it's my house we're talking about, I pay attention. When I'm not spending money or getting the benefits of the upgrade, I'm not interested.

@Traceyjayne My dad used to watch This Old House, which was a similar type show, when I was a kid. Mom and I read books while everybody else watched the program. Ohhh... you're saying it a "I'm bored so I'll watch this" type show. Gotcha!

@DaddyEvil ha ha ….no I’m rarely bored, but as I am not usually about to watch daytime tv I don’t think about it much when I am at home or have free time. Daytime tv is not my go to thing at all. If they put this programme on later I would watch it regularly.

I used to watch it every day when I wasn’t at work, ….perk of school holidays ….but as it’s on mid morning as soon as I was back at work I couldn’t watch it anymore. I’ve only just started watching again, even though I have been off a while now.

We have similar programs here as to what you describe. One I like alot because it is different is Homestead Rescue where they help people who decided to homestead in a rural areas without really doing their homework so they run into trouble. The rescuers set them straight and help them construct solutions to their problems.

We have programs such as this in the US. I would never take on a large project such as that.
