Good Eats and a Great Deal

I stopped into Schnuck's yesterday, our local grocery store, because they had a couple of items in their sale ad that appealed to me. Bratwurst at $2.99 per pound. My wife wanted Skimmers, an alcoholic beverage and that was on sale for $15.99, and her Chi-Chi's Long Island Iced Tea was on sale at $6.99 each as well. I don't usually shop much there since, besides Dierberg's, Schnuck's is the second most expensive grocery store in town. On a whim, I checked the frozen aisle because I had Innovasian on my list, and sometimes Schnuck's runs a sale on them that makes them a better price than the current best price which is $5.99 a box at Walmart, and lo and behold, they had them on sale on a buy one get one free offer at $7.49. That made them around $3.75 a box, a $2.24 a box savings over Walmart, so, of course, I picked up two. I wanted their orange chicken, but they were out, so I got their honey chicken instead, which we have had before and is quite good. As such, that's what I decided to make for dinner last night. It's always easy to make, and I typically add to it. The box comes with tempura fried chicken pieces and a sauce packet. On this batch, I added frozen peas, onions and green peppers to the mix after I fried up the chicken in the wok and threw in the sauce. We served it over a bed of hot, white Jasmine rice. Good eats, no doubt about it. What went on your dinner table last night?

That does look really good. I have a roast pork dinner for later ….with roast potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, sage and onion stuffing, gravy and apple sauce.

Pork roast is always good. We love pork around here as my many comments and posts regarding food might suggest. We eat so much pork, in fact, that every time we drive past a pig farm, all the pigs run and hide.

@porwest it's so easy to put a whole chicken in the oven and then you get to make gravy. But on my way home from hiking it was nice to just get something cooked.

@paigea That's probably the biggest reason I don't get one. And I usually have a bird in the freezer.

It was very good. It has a bit of sweetness to it which compliments the dish very well, and makes the Jasmine rice taste even better. It's just good eats. But yes, I love meatballs.
