A disgruntled farmer spreads the word

We saw this sign on a farmer’s gate on our way to Beacon in Western Australia. On the way home, we stopped to get a photo of it. We felt really sorry for the farmer. He is obviously very upset about his Case tractor. These cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and to have it out of operation would be a huge blow. We wondered if he had managed to get any crop sown and even if he had had to give up his farmer. Most farmers borrow heavily for machinery, not to mention the cost of seed and fertiliser. If they don’t get a good return on their crop, then they can be in huge financial difficulties. I don’t know if the ‘For Sale’ sign is for the tractor or for the farm. I hope things turn out okay for him. Edit: Can't load the photo at the moment. I'll try again later.

It's up there now. Some posts are pretty hopeless without a photo.

@wolfgirl569 I can't imagine anyone would buy it on his recommendation but it does show how frustrated he is.

This is the same case of small farmers in India. Rich farmers can somehow manage.

@JudyEv That's true. When produce of a farm doesn't sell at a good price, it becomes very difficult to maintain farming machinery.

It's unfortunate that small farmers are the ones who work the land and till the crops they plant. Despite this, the middlemen profit more from their harvest by purchasing it. Since farmers are the ones who actually worked for it, they ought to receive more.

@JudyEv True they are the capitalists they haave the money and bargaining rights to dictate the price. They also have the logistics that could transport the goods to the market doing that they could double the price when sold to the end user.

You're right but in many situations, it's hard to cut out the middleman.

I hope this is for the better, I know God has something better for him, and hoping the man will not be disheartened.

It's a tough life but most wouldn't want to do anything else.

Farming is a very dicey business; and it takes some really dedicated farmers to make it work. Yes, we can't post pictures again.

Farmers have a lot of money tied up in their machinery and it's difficult for them to manage without it.
