I Don't Enjoy Riding in the Car Anymore

It's not my husband's aggressive driving (I think) but the other idiots on the road who are drifting into our lane because they're on their phones or zooming over in front of us with only two inches to spare.
It's just not safe anymore. It's not enjoyable. It's stressful.
Anybody else tired of the situation on the road?

I am very tired of it. My husband drives mostly. I drive when I have to. I'm always glad when the drive is over.

I have always practiced defensive driving, so, I SEE the idiots LONG before they become an issue for me. I keep my distance. I watch what people are doing in their cars trying to anticipate what they aren't paying attention to or what they might suddenly decide to do. I don't immediately drive forward when the light turns green, I scan the intersection to see if anyone has missed their red light. I wait longer, not trusting blinkers before I turn into traffic, making SURE the person is actually turning and not just driving with a false blinker on. I also observe smashed cars and cars with silver doors and brown bodies and give them a bit more distance. When traffic slows on the freeway I offer myself more distance, an escape plan, watch my rearview mirror like a hawk and turn on my hazards.
I HAVE to get from point A to point B. But in doing that, I ALSO have to deal with the idiots. So...I take extra caution and care to REALLY observe my surroundings.

We hardly ever drive anywhere anymore. We just go to doctor appointments and to the grocery store. (A few blocks to the doctor's office and 2 miles to the grocery store once every two weeks.) It has been a nice change from driving to work with crazy drivers and bad weather.

@looeyville Drivers here aren’t really too bad, but once you cross the border into the Irish Republic you fear for your life. Drivers seem intent on getting right up my tail pipe and they’ll just stop and park anywhere. If there are two lanes they straddle them and they’ll treat traffic lights and speed limits as polite suggestions.

I am totally with you there and know exactly what you are talking about. My husband gets very aggravated by the NON drivers as he calls them. He is a very aggressive driver as well. I have bad anxiety and he sets it off every time we go out any where. But yes so many people are on their phone's instead of driving. My husband wishes he could have a cell phone blocker in the truck so that no one can get on their phone in front of him.

I"m glad there is now one other person who will understand my views. I am AFRAID to drive anymore. I used to drive all over the place...in state, out of state...but now I'm afraid of getting into an accident. I refuse to drive.

That's true. I believe you. There are some reckless drivers so it's better to be safe and driving. For you are csreful but others are not. Remember accident may happen anytime especially when you least expect it.
