Are There Any Numismatics Out There?

I think that coin collecting (or being a numismatist) is so interesting. I guess that 38% of U.S. adults have collected coins at some time during their lives. They give us a bit of a glimpse into the past and some coins are worth a lot of money. The world's oldest coin is The Lydian Lion from 600 BCE in Lydia (modern day Turkey). The coins were made of electrum which is a mixture of silver and gold. The making of this coin marked a milestone in economic history because it established the concept of money as we know of it today. Due to its rarity and historic significance, it is estimated to be worth a staggering $2.5 million.

Yes my hubby and I always collected coins. I have a bunch I need to go through. $2.5 million for one coin is amazing.

@celticeagle The collecting of coins and also stamps isn’t as popular as it used to be I think. I have quite a collection, many going back the 1890s.

I think it is like many other things. The popularity goes up and down.
