Phoenix Norwood who is a resident of Washington D C borrowed his family's houseboat and a net on Thursday September 18 when a small gator was seen in a channel in southwest Washington D.C. Phoenix managed to capture the four-foot alligator and held the animal until animal control employees arrived to take care of the alligator to find a new home since it is not legal to own an alligator in the Virginia and Maryland area. The animal control employees believe that the former owner of the alligator abandoned the animal since the owner could not keep the animal as a pet. Link is upi.com/233175800154 via @upi

You are right since alligators are not to be raised as pets if the owner is not able to raise them right.

It’s such a bad idea to dump pets into nature. Did you see the goldfish being dumped into rivers? They grow to be huge, and they eat native plants and tiny fish that are essential to the environment.

good thing the gator is still small. I am not sure the net would hold if it had been a big one

It's a great pity when owners just abandon their pets.

I HATE owners that abandon their pets. They should not have had this gator in the first place. I'm glad the alligator will be re-homed.

So do I since it is bad news for anyone to raise a gator since when the gators are grown up, they are dangerous.

Phoenix was lucky that he doesn't live in Australia, as no member of the public is allowed to handle an alligator, even as he did there, in those circumstances. They have to report such incidents to the authorities to handle. "In Australia, Interfering with, harming, or illegally keeping a crocodile, can lead to significant fines, and other legal action. The maximum penalty for intentionally disturbing a crocodile can be over $27,000, as in one case." You are not allowed to interreact with an alligator here for any reason.
