I got Spectrum Internet, and TV stream TV package today. Each one is $40/month so monthly total is $80. Price is locked for two years. Guy said it’s with tax already but I have a feeling it may not be. Also, I have to pay $30 for self-installation. What the heck? I shouldn’t have to pay to install something myself. Unless it’s actually for activating service.
I am bummed that local channels that I watch—CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX—are not included in TV stream. I’d have to upgrade my TV package to a cable package and that will cost $100/month. No way! Gonna have to find other ways to watch my shows. If I have to subscribe to many streaming services for that it won’t be good.

Ouch, that self-installation fee is a real pain! I totally agree with you—it seems unfair to charge for you doing the work yourself. It's probably exactly what you said, an 'activation fee' disguised as an install fee. It's also a bummer about the local channels not being included; that seems to be the catch with a lot of these streaming TV packages. I hope you find a good way to watch your shows without breaking the bank!

If I do Hulu perhaps that will allow me to watch all of my FOX shows. And paramount+ will let me watch the different NCIS series I watch, plus Tracker. That leaves me with The Voice. Not sure if I can watch that without subscribing to peacock.

@lovebuglena That's actually a really smart way to break it down
Hulu should definitely cover your FOX shows, and Paramount+ is perfect for the NCIS universe and Tracker. For The Voice, you're right—it usually ends up on Peacock the next day
Might be worth checking if any current Peacock deals make it worth adding. Sounds like you've got a solid plan though!

@lovebuglena That's the tricky part with network apps—they often require a cable TV login that includes the channel. Since Spectrum TV Stream doesn't have NBC, the app likely won't grant access. A Peacock subscription is probably the most straightforward way to watch it.

I used to pay about $250 for cable. We went to Roku and pay about $75 for the same stations now.

What do you have with Roku? Before hubby cancelled Verizon FIOS he was paying in the $200 range for TV + Internet. Don’t remember exact amount.

@celticeagle Do you pay for those streaming services or are they free?

I quit Spectrum because they kept increasing their prices. I doubt that the taxes and fees are included in the $80. That self-installation fee is BS.

I think that fee is an activation fee. I remember cell phone plans used to charge $35 activation per phone. Not sure if they still do that.
