An encounter with a creepy crawly

When I got home last night after my shopping trip, I noticed a creepy crawly on the wall above the house door. I have no idea what the creature was but it was brown and it looked like it had whiskers. It was on the bigger side and may have had many legs, though I’m not sure. It was too far for me to get a good look at it. I was freaked out by it, so didn’t take a picture. After taking off my shoes, I grabbed the shopping bags and quickly ran up the stairs for fear it may fall on me. I went to check on it after I put the groceries away. It wasn’t in that spot anymore. I looked around and saw it moving up the wall to the second floor. It was too high for me to reach it. I was gonna wait till it either went to the lower part of the wall or to the floor before trying to kill it. It ended up going all the way up to the ceiling below the last step of the stairs going to the third floor. No way could I reach it there. I was afraid to try and use a broom on it. I didn’t want it falling on me. I called my mom to show her the insect and she ended up calling her friend to come help me get rid of it as he lives close to me. He is shorter than me so I wasn’t sure how he’d be able to do it. He came to my house with a broom. After he attacked it with a broom it jumped but we couldn’t see where. I looked around and saw that it had landed on the back of his shirt and was moving around. I screamed and moved away from him. I don’t remember what the guy did but the thing jumped off and landed on the wall near him. That thing seemed like a flyer. The guy grabbed the broom and smacked it and it fell to the floor. Not sure if that killed it or not but he took a paper towel, picked it up, and threw it in the compost. Hitting the broom against the wall left a small damage on it. I was not happy about that as we just renovated the house but I was glad the creepy crawly was gone.
