Shoes for shearers

If you check the image back in my previous discussion, you will see the wax model of the shearer wearing ‘slippers’ similar to the ones in this photo. These are moccasin-type shoes made of soft leather.
The wool from sheep contains a lot of natural oil or lanolin and over time, much of the timber in a shearing shed becomes stained with lanolin. The shoes would stay soft and comfortable because they are always coming into contact with wool. As you can see, these are made from a very simple pattern.

It looks like it's only the lacing that is holding the shoe together.

I wear moccasins very regularly. They are so comfortable.
