Miss me? Didn’t think so.
Okay, you missed not having anything to dance to. This one will definitely make up for the absence yesterday, because you’ll be rocking to this one! Put on your boogie shoes and rock those plastic chairs to pieces @rebelann because here we go!!
Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) - Robert Palmer
If you weren’t around, 1979 was a weird year when it came to editing songs for sexual content for radio airplay. The biggest song of the year was The Knack’s “My Sharona,” which had that line in the chorus regarding a crude term for erections. The follow-up song was “Good Girls Don’t,” where the line “wishing you could get inside her pants” was changed to “wishing she was giving you a chance.”
I bring that up because one station edited this single to take the line “I know you like it, you like it on top” out.
And if you weren’t around then, this all sounds ridiculous, given how many songs we’ve had nominated for Grammy awards with the F-word in the title.
Enough of that. Let’s talk about Robert Palmer.
Ooh, he was gorgeous. I always considered him the British version of Boz Scaggs: suave, sexy, and oh so soulful. And yes, Boz has a song this rocking (actually, quite a few!).
This was written by the late Moon Martin, an American songwriter who floundered with his own success. Shortly after this song became a hit, Martin’s song “Rolene” made the US top 40. Don’t go look it up (although his original version of this song is quite good…he just wasn’t anything to look at
).
We lost Palmer way too early (he was only 54 when he died of a heart attack in 2003). He sure left a boatload of great music to enjoy.

That's not a good one to make white men dance. Come on that was funny. Thats a rich white man song, they will dance to it but us scrubs never. It was a fun song no one ever hated it. I am surprised d no one heard it. We were tripping when we first heard it. It is pretty cool, but for most of us its not the world we saw.

Glad you enjoyed it! One of Palmer's "early" hits (1979, or about six years after his first album), but before the robot babes in the videos in the 80s.

I remember the song "Bad Case Of Loving You." I did not know that Robert Palmer was the singer.

He had a lot of variations in his sound, so I can understand why someone wouldn’t connect this to the guy who did “Addicted to Love.”
