Today her wrecked Camaro will be completely restored and it is going to the youngest son who is also her Power of Attorney (long story).
The youngest son works full time and has no clue what all is required of him. My hubby (the oldest son, there are only two of them) and I have been doing all the work, making all the calls, scheduling all the appointments, etc.
This morning I called to cancel her insurance on the Camaro because the youngest son is taking over the car. MIL shouldn't have to pay insurance on a car she's not driving. The insurance agency wouldn't let me do it because (a) I'm not on the policy; and (b) I'm not the Power of Attorney.
I completely understand their position. I wouldn't want someone randomly calling my agent and cancelling my policy.
But it makes things harder to deal with.

Try to get her to do it. She should take her name off the car too

Yes I'm trying to ascomplish all of that. Youngest son lives 45 minutes across town.

It makes a person wish the car would have been declared totaled, at least it would have been one less headache. But if that had happened, your MIL might have been hurt worse, so it was better this way. I've done all of this before with my parents, but it's been a long time ago and things were not so complicated.

@looeyville Getting all this stuff sorted is tiresome. We understand why institutions won’t let anybody make decisions without strong safeguards and we appreciate it, but it’s exhausting.

You and your husband certainly have stepped up and taken a lot of the headaches away from his brother. Hope the brother doesn't lollygag changing the insurance.
