Ahoy, Maties!

My, how times are changing. When the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened in 1971, alcohol of any type was strictly taboo. Walt Disney himself wanted the Magic Kingdom to be as family-friendly as possible, and in his view alcohol had no place in the family-friendly dynamic of his beloved theme park. As more theme parks were added to Walt Disney World (Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach), alcohol was permitted in each of those locations, but Magic Kingdom stood its ground and continued to forbid alcohol. Quick Side Story: the Magic Kingdom bills itself as the Happiest Place on Earth, yet out of all the theme parks, it seemed that the guests were the most miserable at Magic Kingdom. Over the years, people began to notice and comment that it specifically was the result of NOT allowing alcohol in the park. Now, whether or not there is an actual correlation, well that is up for debate. But it was an astute observation. Around the time Magic Kingdom expanded Fantasyland, a new high-end restaurant called Be Our Guest opened in that section of the park, and Disney quietly allowed them to serve a limited alcohol menu. Word soon got out, and eventually Disney allowed other restaurants within the Magic Kingdom to serve alcohol. Fast forward to 2025, and a new pirate tavern has just opened in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Magic Kingdom, aptly called the Beak and Barrel (after parrots that sit on pirates' shoulders and the barrels that held the rum on the ships). Reservations are required to get in, and immediately before it ever opened to the public it was booked solid for months out. Through connections, I was able to score a reservation for two on a recent visit, and the tavern did not disappoint. It is eloquently pirate themed, and Disney thought out every detail on the decor. And no pirate tavern would be complete without a signature drink, which in this case is a rum drink that comes with its very own souvenir mug (see photo). I loved the place and hope to be able to go back again in the future. If you visited the Happiest Place on Earth, would you stop by the Beak and Barrel for a drink or two (assuming you could get a reservation)?

I’m going to Disneyland in November, but I doubt I ever go to Disney World again (I went when I was a kid). Not because it’s not amazing, but because it’s just too big for tired old me. I don’t drink, but I bet all their drinks are mighty tasty! You and my sister would have a blast talking. She took her kids to Disneyland three times, took them to Disney World twice, is leaving the Disney Hawaii resort today, and in thee years is going to Tokyo Disney. She’s a Disney fan for sure!

Wow, she's more of a Disney fan than me! lol We're planning a big 7-day Disney cruise for next year. Neither of my kids have ever been on a cruise before, so they'll absolutely love it.

@AmbiePam It would be cool to meet your sister one time when she's at Walt Disney World. You'll have to let me know next time she goes, and if possible maybe we can arrange a quick meet-up. It would be fun to compare notes from another "regular" who goes to Disney often.

@wolfgirl569 My iPhone takes too good of pictures (pixel-wise), so I usually will take a screen shot of my photos and then use the screenshot to upload to myLot. It has always worked in the past. But I had a software update not too long ago, and it appears now even my screenshots are of very high quality. It took me forever to size it down to a level acceptable for myLot.

Photo is up now. I had trouble re-sizing the original, but finally got it figured out.

Sure, as long as it didn't cost a King's ransom.

If my relatives and myself have a chance to visit the Magic Kingdom new attraction, we will go there.

Make sure to order the souvenir drink! lol The only bad things about the new pirate tavern is that it is nearly impossible to get a reservation, you're only allowed to be in there for 45 minutes, and you can only order 2 drinks per person. I guess they want to keep the drunks from taking advantage of Magic Kingdom's first bar.

Look, at the end of the day when you are spending $9,000 and dealing with kids and long lines to rides... You NEED a damn drink!

That is what makes it so fun, needing many days to do everything there is to do.

I don't really drink either (well, not that much), so don't leave extra drinks for me or I might get drunk! lol. One drink is all I need to have me feeling good these days.

I don't really drink anymore either, so one drink these days has me feeling good. They don't serve meals at the Beak & Barrel, but they do have appetizers that are pretty good. We tried a chip and dip sampler (I forget what it was called) that was really good, and also some kind of octopus salad that was amazing.

I heard some annual passes were going up by $150 each on the higher priced tiers.
