Eccentric or downright rude?

When I started courting the young lady I was subsequently to wed, I took silent, unexpressed umbrage at how I was treated. It was only a small thing but it irked me no end and I’ve never mentioned it in over 40 years - I may be a bit daft but I’m not stupid.
Whenever I would visit the family seat I was always welcomed and plied with tea and cake, but while I ate, her father always hovered behind me with a dustpan and brush, sweeping up any crumbs before they got the chance to settle on the carpet.
This annoyed me no end and I was so tempted to ask if it might be better if I took my cake out into the garden to eat.
What silly little things annoy you, or what silly little habits of yours irritate the life out of your guests?

This brings to mind a lot of memories. I rarely had any issues with in-laws, it was the husbands I grew tired of. I don't know how the in-laws put up with them. There were four and only one did I miss out on meeting his mother.

I hate it when guests don’t use the coasters to put their mugs on ….i don’t want them in the carpet where they can get knocked over and I don’t want them on my lovely wooden sideboard where they will leave nasty rings.
Ooohhh you have started me now …..

My husband used to tell a story for 10 minutes at a time. If I tried to interject a comment or ask a question, he would say I was interrupting and would get hopping mad.

That's funny!
When we visited my partner's parents, if conversation ever turned to something I wanted or even a suggestion that I might buy something, his father would make some jokey remarks about spending my partner's money. This would really annoy me because I have never spent a single penny of his money, we keep our finances completely separate. It would seem rude for me to tell him off so I just had to bite my tongue, and thankfully he has stopped now, I don't know whether my partner maybe had a quiet word with him or something.
