The gas company saga continues

My mom’s last gas bill had a current and previous reading numbers (both estimates) that were way higher than the actual reading on the meter. That means the bill before that had estimate readings that were way higher as well. I called the gas company (as the account is on my name) and told them about it and they sent me a link to upload a picture of the gas meter with the reading. I did that and was expecting for them to make an adjustment on the next bill based on the meter reading I emailed them. That never happened. The new bill that was generated now again had estimate readings and they were, of course, still way higher than the actual meter reading that was on the meter this Thursday. On this bill it also says we have a third-party supplier. We’re not supposed to have them anymore because I got rid of them. I got rid of them by calling them directly September of last year and supposedly they canceled my account because I got a notification of that in the mail. According to my gas company tough, there were still on my account and that’s why we were still billed for them. The gas company removed them on their end this September when I called them about it. If that is the case, why is the third-party supplier still on the current bill and we’re getting billed based on their rates? I have to call the gas company again and deal with all this. It is getting on my last nerves already. We’ve been overpaying for a long time now it seems. And dealing with all these issues is a pain in the butt.

It may be a pain but hopefully at some point they will realize you aren't going to let up and do the right thing. Have you thought of speaking to a legal representative? I would wonder if there is some way to legally make them double check and see if you don't have a refund coming. Sometimes just bring in a legal representative can make companies do the right thing when they are going to just continue to play you otherwise.

I haven’t thought to do that. Previous bills I didn’t wanna pay because of the estimated readings being way more than they should be but I was told since the bills were generated I had to pay them. The bill totals would get adjusted after I’d submit a picture of the meter reading. But that hasn’t happened.

@lovebuglena .......I'm just thinking that the sooner you get to the bottom of this the better. I mean as soon as they figure how to get to the bottom of this you probably won't get any credit for the back amounts you've already paid. So, the sooner you can find a reasonable method that works correctly the better. How very frustrating.

@celticeagle If they overcharged us they should rectify that regardless of when that is.

Ugh.. I totally get this! ..Had the same kinda mess with my electricity company here — kept sending me those crazy “estimated” bills that were like double what I actually used.... took months to fix it...I understand your frustration

The issue with my mom is that her gas meter is inside the garage. Before somebody had to get access to her garage to read the meter. If no one was home to open the door, the meter couldn’t be read and there would be an estimated reading. Now that they changed the meter, as the one she had was old, we were told they’d be able to read it remotely. That doesn’t seem to be the case because the readings are still estimated. They told me they had an issue reading the meter and they sent someone over to look at it. Whoever came said everything is working fine. Then what’s their problem? Why are the readings still estimated?

@lovebuglena Yeah that’s crazy, they already sent someone and said it’s fine and can be read remotely.. but they’re still estimating, like it doesn’t make sense at all. I’d just call again and ask for a supervisor or something ‘cause clearly something’s off.

I can't say I blame yu on that one. I don't have to deal with that, but I feel for those that do.

Have you called the 3rd party supplier directly?

I called them last year to cancel the service and they did that. And I called them this year about it as well and they had no idea why we were still being charged for supply.

@LindaOHio I was gonna call them today, but I realize it’s Columbus Day so they’re probably not available. Will try to do it tomorrow.
