scratching my head

Of course we sent prayers. Practicalities. I feel helpless. Helpless about what? When we moved we left behind a family. The husband in the family sometimes drove my hubby to work, when the weather was nasty and I couldn't handle the roads. I always think of him as "Cabbie." Two days ago I saw through FB that Cabbie was very ill. They airlifted him to a larger city to a hospital. Once he gets out of ICU he will need weeks and weeks of rehab. Cabbie was the wage earner in his family. His wife has her hands full with their profoundly handicapped son. Cabbie's last employment was Doordash. Doordash does NOT pay for insurance or other monetary necessities. Slam. No way to pay for all the usual bills: power, water, food, rent. You name it, it's not going to be paid. Her group of friends have been tapped many times over for things like birthday gifts for the son. Now they're being tapped for major needs. I guess somebody is talking about Go Fund Me and selling some of their belongings to help raise money. I could send maybe a hundred dollars but that won't do anything. Just get swallowed up. I'm still scratching my head. I wish this was the only family in America caught between the cracks.

@snowy22315 Agreed but I felt I needed to help the woman so I paid it.

Man, that just sucks - you guys were there for each other when it counted and now they're getting slammed and you're too far away to do anything but watch it happen on Facebook. A hundred bucks feels like nothing but it's also everything you can do, and that's the crappy part about how things work here.

My blood is boiling. That this would happen. And that there are people here who would say they just didn’t “live within their means” or that it’s the family’s problem, not theirs. Bull crap. This happens too much and too often. People need help! They have nowhere to go, and have exhausted all the help from friends and family available. Medical bills are killing innocent, bill paying, honest people just trying to live! We need to help each other. I want to be sick.

@AmbiePam I am with you all the way. I am super worried that Cabbie will not be able to work again. Ever. Then what?? The son is autistic. He is getting toward the teen years and at times can have violent reactions to things going on. The situation is a powder keg.

I would send the funds directly to them. Find out if they have a Venmo or if you know the address, send a cashiers check or money order. I see you already did the gofundme but if you do it again, would be good to do it directly. It takes one thing to wipe out someone's financial comfort. The $100 will do a lot more than you think. If their son is disabled, they will get some sort of funds and maybe can get food stamps.

This would be awful news for you. They would be devastated. It's good of you to send what you can.
