People are flocking to see the giant tractor

I’ve written about the gigantic tractor that graces the small town of Carnamah in Western Australia. A news article today says that, since the installation of the Chamberlain tractor, tourism has increased a great deal. The original Chamberlain 40K was Western Australia’s first locally manufactured tractor. Tourists would visit the town through the wildflower season but now they’re coming ‘out of season’ as it were to see the tractor. Many stay an extra night or two as well. The café has taken on more staff and they now sell little biscuits (cookies) shaped like tractors. Chamberlain merchandise also sells well. The photo was taken earlier this year when we visited the town.

This tractor is so large and unusual that I am not surprised it attracts visitors.

@JudyEv It brings some money to the town, tourists have to eat and often they buy something.

@LadyDuck Yes, that's very true. They might stay a night in the caravan park and have a look around the town while they're there.

It's a great boost to morale too to have something in your town that everyone wants to see.

Another town has a giant ram so it will be interesting to see what people come up with next. I can't find my photo of the ram but this one is by Nachoman-au, Wikimedia.

The small towns are coming up with some great ideas and it seems to be paying off. Many of the caravan parks have now been upgraded and are a pleasure to stay in.

the tractor is usually smaller than this, unfortunately I can't see directly how big it is.

I'll put another one with a person in it so you can see better how big it is.

I was really pleased to hear the town is doing well. Many of the other small ones that we went to are doing quite well too and morale seems to be high which is good.

That’s so cool! Obviously, since I spent so much time stopping at every “tourist trap” on Route 66, I love things like that!

It's good to know the efforts of the locals are paying off. I've really enjoyed our visits to the smaller towns.
