The Baking Club is getting out of control

We've had 3 meetings and 1 bake sale. The group just keeps getting bigger and bigger which I find hilarious because the students are always saying how mean and what a terrible teacher I am. Was not expecting to have so many students want to hang with me after school. Teachers keep telling me that they have students who want to join. I appreciate it but inside I'm screaming "no more kids! No!" I'm trying to come up with some kind of decorating contest for Monday but we will have to use all disposable stuff because I won't have a way to clean items. That seems wasteful. I've just spent almost 2 hours trying to come up with something to do but nothing seems practical for a large group. I'm done looking online for now. I will deal with it again tomorrow.

That’s absolutely fantastic! I mean, daunting, but fantastic. Can you turn away people, or do you have to let everyone in? I’d hate to see it get so big you couldn’t do much of anything. On the other hand, you don’t want to exclude people who show an interest. It’s a pity they just can’t pay you enough to warrant two days for the club. It is so cool you got students that excited about baking.

Well I am having the kids RSVP for the baking/cooking meetings so I have enough supplies. If they don't RSVP then I could say "sorry". It is still early days. I'm sure interest will wane over the course of the year.

Might it be a half-semester thing, where you could have a new group of kids in the spring? And is the principal mad at you because you’ve actually found something everyone in the school wants to participate in?

That's good and bad. I hope you're able to find a way to accommodate them all without too much hassle.

It's exciting that students are showing an interest in something; but I can understand your frustration with lack of space, materials and ideas.
