Tea cakes and Olive Oil …..

United Kingdom

Strange combination I know….. Not to be eaten together …. I am putting together two Christmas hampers. One for my Mom and the other for The Mister. It’s something I do every year and it’s just a bit of fun really. The Mister is using olive oil ….at the moment ….and this week there was a huge discount on the biggest bottle of the one he uses. I had to get it. The teacakes are the small ones….biscuit base, jam, marshmallow, all covered in chocolate. He loves them as a treat when he is away working. I am doing well as I am getting a couple of things for each of them every week. What would you put in a hamper for your loved ones ….. ?

I used to make up boxes of stuff for Pretty when she was away at college. Sometimes I'd pack the box full of cans of soup I knew she loved to eat and stuffed small, interesting items (toys, candles, candies, cakes) in the holes between the cans of soup. I called the boxes "care packages" and sent her one once a month. After she came home from college, she said her friends in the dorm looked forward to seeing what I sent in the boxes almost as much as she did. A few times I made homemade foods, packed them in Ziploc bags and packed ice around the foods and shipped those to her, too. She said the ice hadn't all melted by the time she received the boxes so there was no worry that anything had spoiled while it was being shipped to her.

@Traceyjayne Pretty is my little girl... I had to do my best to make sure she was happy and well-fed in college.

I used to do that with my mother in law and she loved all the things that we got her.

I’m pleased I’m not the only one, When I told my friend what I did thinking it might help her do something similar for her Mom, as she is always moaning that she never knows what to get her, she just turned her nose up and said “ is that so you don’t have to bother thinking of a proper present to get her !” …..i thought that was quite rude ! Also the hamper is an extra present , just a bit of fun to help out with the everyday items and treats she may not buy for herself.

@Traceyjayne My great grandchildren like small gifts over something big. A box of small gifts for a presents is loved by them.

If my husband were still alive, he loves Peeps. He was never one for snacks. Years and years ago he liked chips with a French onion dip. He loved cashews; but they didn't love him. He did love cookies.

Sounds like a good choice. I would always be guided by the wishes of those close to me.
