I was just watching a scene in a scary Halloween movie that reminded me of this When I was a teen I read a story about a girl who got grabbed by the ankle at night by a presence under the bed. All the lights were turned on and nothing was there . That scared me so much that I jumped into bed at night until I was about 17. What about you? Were you ever scared by a ghost or monster story you read?

It took me a long time not to be afraid of the ankle grabbing thing.

@snowy22315 As a child, I heard a similar story. A woman entered someone's house and hid under the bed. When the man was going to bed, he happened to hear some rustling under the bed, when he looked up he saw a woman holding a knife. I am 42 now, but whenever I go to bed I always look under the bed.

I never read anything that scared me like that; I only heard stories from others that inspired that kind of description.

My mother was scared by reading IT that she turned all the lights on in the house. Many years later, I read IT and did the same thing. lol

My mother liked really scary movies and would make me and my brother watch them with her. I used to get really scared from them. Movies like The Exorcist, The Omen, and Rosemary's Baby. To this day that is my least favorite genre of movies. I do like older scary movies such with Boris Karloff and Vincent Price in them. But newer ones, no thanks.

Seems weird she would encourage a kid to watch them.

Not that I can remember. And I'm careful not to watch scary movies at night now that I'm alone. I watch them during the daytime.

I remember a dream I had when I was little, and a monster or something roared behind me. I remember waking up in bed and refusing to look behind me.

YES! I love so much to read scary stories and some seriously scared me. I remember one night I moved to sleep in the bed with my Mom because I was too scared to sleep alone in my bed. My brother still mocks me for that.

I read that, although it didn't affect me too much. His book Legion is supposed to be even scarier. I want to read that.
