Quote of the Day- Government Shutdown

Quote from a top Democratic House leader, Mrs. Kathryn Clark. "Of course, there will be families that are going to suffer... but it is one of the few leverage times we have." Is playing politics with people's lives by shutting down the government really your goal of Mrs. Clark? Democrat Minority Senate Leader Chuck Schumer also chimed in insisting on “guarantees” of increased spending for healthcare or the Democrats will not vote to open up the government. Majority House Leader Mike Johnson is agreeable to negotiations but only when the government is up and running again. He does not like Republicans being "extorted" for more federal spending, throwing more money at a failing government health program (Obamacare). Also, U.S. Citizens are currently paying (subsidizing) the healthcare of illegals through being taxed. With prices for goods still high this is not a time for shutting down the government and withholding paychecks to necessary federal workers. Yep, the party of compassion and the working class. I guess only when it comes to non-citizens, not real ones. Photo- shutdown

There are two key parts to this that people simply are refusing to understand as it applies to the rolling back of cuts and that is that 20 million people were put onto Medicaid who otherwise would not qualify when covid was happening, and we want to cut funding because those 20 million extra people don't need to be funded and SHOULD NOT be in the program, AND sending more money to the states WHILE still covering 20 million people that WON'T receive benefits leaves it open to states to redirect that funding to illegals... Which IS the issue here. lol The cuts don't TAKE AWAY healthcare options. It ENSURES it is available in the system for those who NEED it. When we added funds, it was to account for people forced to be unemployed during covid who also potentially lost healthcare coverage. The funding is no longer needed, and we simply want to cut the funding. The Democrats want the money so that it can used in ways it was never intended to be used. Of COURSE they aren't framing it that way.

Exactly, and they want to make those who are able to work, not elderly or infirm, to get off the couch and find part time employment or to at least be looking for a job. There were too many receiving health assistances that do not qualify. In addition, what is really ending is not healthcare coverage under Obamacare, but the added cash Democrats in Congress agreed to pay insurers (using taxpayer money) during COVID. Perhaps a reason why ACA prices are also rising. Like you said, Dems lie again!

@dgobucks226 Everything they (the Democrats) touch goes to crap, fails miserably, and costs taxpayers a fortune. The more they "fix," the more that becomes broken.

@porwest Yep, why they want more money. They promised it would cost only 100 million to subsidize initially but wound up costing 800 million. Now they want over a trillion to keep it going. We just can't afford it! And universal health care (the Dems goal) will receive enough support.

No, trade with other countries still goes on and is not affected by the shutdown. Otherwise, we might have another shortage crisis like what happened during Covid. Yikes!

@RasmaSandra Social Security is one program that will not be affected. Don't worry, you will receive your payments.

No, they get their paychecks. Which is wrong. If they won't vote to reopen the government then they should not be paid until they do. Our House of Representatives (Republican members) voted to extend government funding until November 21st. Wonder what would happen if the party who voted against keeping the government open (Democrats) loses the right to their paychecks. Hmm... And of course, those rascals enacted an Amendment to ensure no changes can ever be made regarding their pay.
