The Hunger Games

The book ‘The Hunger Games’ was a best-seller, and had a massive following especially among teenagers and young adults (what this says about contemporary ‘western’ society will, I suspect, provide much analytical material for future students of sociology and ethics, but anyway…) A couple of days ago the evening was dark and dreary so we thought we would eat relatively early and then watch a video. Little One was keen to watch ‘The Hunger Games’ and the rest of us have never seen it or read the book so we agreed. Well that’s an experience I will never need to have again, I’m glad to say, although I’m afraid the memory of it will linger for far too long. It was as depressing as I anticipated; I think I might even have a mild case of PTSD as I’ve been having very disturbing thoughts and even dreams after that. Little One, in contrast, enjoyed it – she had already seen it once at a friend’s birthday gathering. What a fun event that must have been. Who else has seen ‘The Hunger Games’ and did you enjoy it? I’m not into depressing literature or movies, personally. Life is hard enough. I like Jennifer Lawrence, but I wasn’t tempted to see that movie at all, or read the books.

@Fleura Katniss' pull between Gale and Peeta. Her loyalty to Peeta in the games. The District 1 wild costumes and makeup. The 2 different arenas. Donald Sutherland and Woody Harrelson's performances. Katniss and Rue's relationship.

The plot seems to be full of bloodshed and smack of the law of the jungle.

Teenagers forced to kill each other for entertainment - where's the fun in that?

No, I haven't read the books or watched the shows. It didn't sound like something I'd be interested in reading/watching.
