Recall on a prescription drug that affects my son.

I do try to check out recalls if they are something that we use, or swallow, or whatever. We are living in a strange time...and we have to try to stay informed and sort out in our minds what is important, and what isn't. This is important. This drug has a recall. ''Prazosin hydrochloride capsules are a type of prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily through the body. '' AND... ''N-Nitroso Prazosin impurity C is a nitrosamine, a class of chemicals that can form during the manufacturing process or during storage of some drugs, and is carcinogenic, according to Health.com.'' He has enough problems, and now we get to worry about this. Some days, I swear we are being tested. This was prescribed to my son, who is trying to recover from numerous surgeries and needed a strong drug for high BP. He never had numbers before, but the doctors say he does now--he does have a heart murmur, and occasional AFIB, but he's had that forever. Anyway, we were notified it was recalled and NOT to take this medication. Here is the entire article (of which I found quite a few!) and where I got my quotes. I am not happy about this at all.

I remember the name Prazosin because of very serious collateral effects, including sudden drop in blood pressure causing vertigo and falls. I am so sorry that your son needs so many medications, we never know how safe those are.

@MarieCoyle - You are never sure what could be the side effects.

@MarieCoyle - I always read the little notice that comes with the meds. Often I am so scared that I am not sure I want to use them.

If the doctors told him to stop the medication, they surely have good reasons. My father takes medication for high blood pressure, I am now wonder which medication he is taking...

@nela13 The name of the medicine should tell you all you need to know when you look it up.

You’re absolutely right to take that seriously—recalls like this matter, especially with your son’s health history. It’s good you caught the notice and stopped the medication right away.

I wouldn’t be happy either . That is a scary situation when our medications are recalled.

I'm glad you're aware of the problem and that the doctor has prescribed another med. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

Sorry to read this. One has to be careful with newly introduced medications these days.

Yes, we do. Some medications help and some might not.

I read about that, and immediately wondered if anyone on Mylot was taking it.

We will continue to do our slow march forward here, we don't look back. As the saying goes, we aren't going that way....all we can do is shake it off. It's simply concerning, and I do hope everyone who is taking this knows it is recalled.

Slow down listen to your son what he needs, I get its overwhelming, but he is the only voice that matters. What works for him and what does not.

We are lucky in that we have always spoken very openly together ( I'm that way with all the kids, and they are with me) and I try hard to do whatever I am able to do to make things better for him. Thank you so much.
