A childhood song I have never forgotten.

Do you have one of those? A song that made you feel happy and loved, taught to you by a loved one? I do...and it's a somewhat silly little tune, but it helped me in my childhood and even now, it pops up in my head quite often.
I had a very, very special aunt. I was named after her. She was unable to have her own children, and from day one I was loved and cherished by her. The day we lost her was life changing and so very sad.
I can remember being very small, my own mother MIA, and auntie singing me that little song to remind me that she loved me, very much. And for the record, I sang it to my own children, and grandchildren.
Did you have a special childhood song?

Oh, this is such a good one!
The only song that comes to mind is one my maternal grandfather taught us. He may have written it since it was so goofy. I hope to teach it to my nieces and nephew. It gives me a light feeling when I sing it; my Papaw always had that effect.

Not long ago, one of my grandsons said to me, Grandma, I can still remember that little song you used to sing to me and it made me feel so special. Hey, that alone makes it all worthwhile, making a good memory for someone.
I am glad you had a song to remember, too. Yes, teach it to them, tell them it's part of their legacy. Some day, they will think back and remember.

@MarieCoyle When my babies were little, I would dance around holding them and singing True Love.

When we were young my dad could not carry a tune in a bucket, but he would sometimes put the kids to bed. He sang "Oh, my darlin' Clementine." Mom sang lots of contemporary songs. I remember her picking up one of my siblings and strumming their backside like a guitar, singing "I'm Bringing home a baby bumble bee". It must have been my younger sister, based on the house I remember. I remember her singing The Banana Boat Song to my little brother, as well as Poor Little Robin, to him, his name is Robin. I sang to my kids all the time. Going up the stairs to bed I sang We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder, and I always sang and read to them at bed time.

That’s very true. Never really thought of that. I remember my Dad used to sing in the shower—loudly! But he had a wonderful voice.

It came from the song and the fact that I "walked like a duck" when I moved my first steps.

I've seen your picture and you are a lovely woman, somehow I cannot imagine you walking like a duck. But babies sometimes do that. Anyway, I love the story behind your name, Anna.

Anna, I always wondered about the duck in your name. How special that it came from a childhood song.

It sounds good. I have a lot of English, Hindi and Bengali songs which I still listen and sang as a child.

@MarieCoyle Yes, but I regret not practicing singing and therefore can't sing my favourite songs now.

I know that we shared a special bond, and she made the song special, so I’ve always loved it, and never will forget her singing it to me.

I can't do YouTube right now, but I always loved Jesus Loves Me. It's the first solo I ever sang in church at the age of about four.
That's a special memory of your aunt. I know you still miss her.

You were a brave little girl, singing a solo at age 4!!
It's hard to describe my relationship with my aunt. I was her namesake. She loved me beyond measure, and was always so, so proud of me. She worried about me, advised me, scolded me, but most of all, loved me unconditionally. I was so very fortunate to have her, and she helped shape me in to the person that I am. Thank you, Vicki.

My Mom sang Two little dicky birds
My Dad sandglass I’m Popeye the sailor man ( and blow raspberries on my tummy )….i was a baby so don’t remember that but apparently I found it hilariously funny.

It's so special to connect the little songs with the people who, in my case, are no longer here with us. I am glad you have those memories, too.

The song was introduced from ''Guys and Dolls'' and that came out in 1955. I didn't know that of course when I was young, but it was popular for years.

Nice, I play a video game with that type of music and just love it. It is of course nothing parents would approve but a post apocalyptic world, the music just fits the bill. Its comes across very awesome and it teaches kids older music.

I remember this song very well.
I don't think I have a song from my childhood but I do remember the one I sang to my babies was Sunshine on my Shoulders.. When my 1st daughter was a bit older and could sing it herself she would always sing Sunshine on my Soldiers and we would laugh.
