Good morning. As I was helping George sit on the front porch, he pointed out our next door neighbor had put candy canes in his lawn. Looks like some people are starting to decorate for christmas. While Thanksgiving does exist here, It's started to get ignored by more and more people. Sure, Pizza hut will close and the busses won't run. No snail mail or school, but that's it.

People up north start decorating early because soon the weather will turn nasty. They put their lights up and lawn decorations out in anticipation of the Christmas season.

I suppose you have to. Although I've always found some Christmas Movies funny when you have that one person who's waiting until the last minute to decorate. The roof is frozen and there's a blanket of snow. But, that's what makes television fun and relatable. Because somewhere out there, you've met that one person.

@kaylachan Yup. I don't decorate; but I certainly would not do it in the s**w and ice.

It's lighting up around here also in town. Pretty soon it will be Christmas deco year round! What happened to the old tradition of decorating Thanksgiving evening or the next day/weekend?

You know, I don't know. While we were out we drove past South Daytona City Hall and they were working on their Christmas tree. I understand city buildings doing things this early, given they hold the tree-lighting at the end of the month/early December. And, the Mall is already setting up for Santa. Those things make sense to me. You need enough time for those things, but indiviual homes? Come on..... it's like people don't care about, or forgot Thanksgiving exists.

@kaylachan Exactly! Nobody cares anymore. Thanksgiving has come to be all about shopping with Black Friday sales and those start in October now with some companies! Crazy!!

Decorating can be a stress reliever for those doing big dinners for the holidays. I'm speculating. Some do it in layers too. Thanksgiving ignored? We sure don't do the affair we used to but we still have one.

When I say it's mostly ignored, is because as soon as Haloween is over the Christmas Marketing starts.

It almost seems as if Halloween and Christmas have become the biggest holidays and Thanksgiving is just squashed in the middle. My middle daughter put her Christmas tree up already which is too early for me

I know what you mean. Thanksgiving has all but become forgotten. In fact some stores have late evening so-called after dinner specials, known as grey Thersday. It's really sad.
