Yes, I’m up too early. I’m meeting a friend to celebrate his birthday in an hour or so, so it’s going to be a busy day. But first, you get “tortured” with music. Here’s an instrumental you probably heard if you’re of a certain age. Music to Watch Girls By - The Bob Crewe Generation I had to include this for a few reasons. A lot of people will like the title (and a lot of people will hate it), so there’s that. This is also not the first, nor the last, song to begin life as a commercial jingle. (Well, today they use hits as jingles, so we don’t have as many commercial jingles being written as jingles anymore.) Oh, you can go back to the 30s and find “In My Merry Oldsmobile,” or in the 70s for songs like “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.” Speaking of “I’d Like to Teach…” this song, like that, began in a soft drink commercial. This was music they played while hawking cyclamate-laden Diet Pepsi. (Ah, cyclamates…just for gits and shiggles read how that got banned in the USA…) Unlike “I’d Like to Teach…”, you can dance (or move your shoulders, at least) to this one. And finally, there’s Bob Crewe. One of the guys behind production and songwriting of the great hits by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons! And look where he landed! To be fair, it was a big time for trumpet-based instrumentals (as you can probably tell from the songs I’ve used already), so why not take some Diet Pepsi, pour it in a trumpet, and get yourself a top 20 hit. And, like a couple of other songs, after the instrumental became a hit, there were lyrics written for vocal versions. In this case, the “honors” were done by Andy Williams. This is still a good snapshot of the late 60s, in regards to the music style and the title. Music to Watch Girls By Written by Sid Ramin Recorded by The Bob Crewe Generation From Music to Watch Girls By, 1966 Happy Diet Pepsi drinking to you!

The old TV show is probably The Dating Game. They always used Herb Alpert music for the theme.

Oh yeah, you're probably right. Those game shows back then always had tunes like this to open their shows.

I never have like diet Pepsi, or diet soda in general. At first, I thought the same thing about this song but as I continued to listen to it, it sort of brought back memories of my childhood. And by the time it was finished, I thought it to be better than a diet soda

Diet Pepsi, as I remember it, was nasty tasting back in those days.

I'll just watch the girls...with ear plugs on. Although, I must say, I could feel a spy flick vibe here and this would fit in some 60s/70s movie in that genre for sure.
