Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb was released in 1964 and is a political satire black comedy. It was directed, co-written and produced by Stanley Kubrick and loosely based on a novel Red Alert by Peter George. The plot is very similar to the serious movie I did a review about, Fail Safe. In Fail Safe there was an error which sent bombers to the Soviet Union...In Dr. Strangelove a madman orders the bombers to attack. This is the 2nd or 3rd time that I've watched this movie. Peter Sellers plays 3 parts in the movie: Group Captain Leonid Mandrake, Merkin Muffley President of the United States and Dr. Strangelove a nuclear war expert and former Nazi who has alien hand syndrome (limbs act seemingly on their own). Other stars are George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, Slim Pickens and James Earl Jones. The movie was nominated for 4 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor for Peter Sellers. Dr. Strangelove is considered to be one of the best comedy films and one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. U. S. Air Force Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper issues a Wing Attack Plan R to B-52 bombers armed with thermonuclear bombs to attack the Soviet Union. Mandrake realizes that Ripper has gone mad.and that the planes must be stopped; but, as in Fail Safe, that proves to be impossible; and one plane gets through. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I wouldn't call it hilarious; but it was pretty decent.

Great movie, but one I haven’t watched for many a year. Peter Sellers was a great actor, who I mostly associate with the Pink Panther films. Very funny!

Of course, I’ve heard tons about the movie, but I never watched it. Did you ever see the live version of Fail Safe they did for TV? I remember George Clooney was it, and they did it live twice, for both coasts. I was intrigued by the live part so I watched it. They even did it in black and white.

You forgot to mention the "scantily" clad women... bikinis in 1964 were quite modest. Loved Slim riding the bomb and the alien hand schtick.

I thought to remember that I liked it when I first saw the movie in the 60s, but I did not enjoy so much re-watching it.
