All my Sunday mornings for the past month or so have been taken up with making scenery for the pantomime. It’s going to be ‘The Little Mermaid’ this year so there will be plenty of sea-themed décor. Our lead props and scenery person is very creative and full of bright ideas. She’s been making all kinds of things out of paper plates, pool noodles and wire. Meanwhile I have been gathering up old laundry baskets and brown packing paper (from Freegle and neighbours) to make ‘rocks’ that are light and easy to carry on and off stage. Here's the before and middle of the rock-producing process. It actually works pretty well don’t you think? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Yes, from a distance that does look like a rock.

We have to get used to making things that will be visible from the back of the hall!

@Fleura I don't think I'd like that job. I'm glad you do.

It looks phenomenal! I can’t imagine what a great job you guys are doing, especially since it seems quite difficult. Please keep updating us because it really sounds interesting and fun.

I love theatre. I'm a hopeless actor, I can't sing and I found all the rehearsals very tedious, but I love making things!

That's certainly working well. It's amazing what you can make out of nothing - or next to nothing.
