Blue Christmas

Now that the presents have been wrapped and the memories come rushing back here is another of my favorite sad Christmas songs. “Blue Christmas” was written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson back in 1948 and first recorded by Daye O’Dell. However, it became a rock and roll holiday classic when Elvis recorded it in 1957 and featured it on his Elvis’ Christmas Album. He must have sung this in my honor because on Christmas 1957 I was 9 months old and it was my first Christmas in this world.

I agree. I liked his version of "My Way" better than Frank Sinatra's.

I love that song. You're ahead of the Christmas rush with having your presents bought and wrapped. I have my trees up and lit. Other than that, I still need to decorate and buy presents.

@just4him hey, nice to hear from you, I hope you are well, The reference to the presents was for my last post about Pretty Paper. I do not buy presents or decorate, I watch Christmas movies and I have my memories, I hope all is well with you and welcome to December,

@RasmaSandra Yes, as well as can be expected at my age. My brain is sharp and that's what counts. Sometimes memories are all we have. Thank you. I hope you're well too and have a wonderful December.

It's so sweet to believe he sung this song in your honor. I already went to school in 1957 and that horrible nun told us that parents bring presents for Christmas.

@RasmaSandra The nuns had a way to spoil everything and make you feel guilty.

I had to listen to even remember. I don't consider it sad but it's interesting that he sang it for your first Christmas. I heard and sang to many Christmas songs last night as we went to hear a band play in an old church. Only a couple of the songs were slow most we're quite fast for the fancy dancers from the audience.

@MarshaMusselman just love how Elvis sings this with feeling. That must have been fun at church.

@RasmaSandra the facility used was a church in the past with an alter type area and many side rooms. I'm not sure who owns it now but it's no longer a church. It's used for what I supposed would be called cultural events. I've gone there to do watercolor and acrylic painting and kids go to do some skits or acting. I don't know everything they do, but most everything is free. The band that plays there has been doing it for a least a year and possibly even longer. I used to work at night so could never go previously.

Its one of my favorites, plus Oh Holy Night. I can't read "Blue Christmas" without thinking of the Porky Pig version now. Back when my granddaughter was very ill in Hollywood's Keizer Sunset, we'd hear that version come on the radio (we listened to Disney a lot), and we'd find humor during this hard time.

@RasmaSandra It is. Some don't understand and think it's being uncaring. We just have to find something to ease some tension at times.
