People are weird!

I’m sure I have said this before, but the things people do never fail to surprise me.
This morning I walked to the bus stop with Little One, then as I started to walk back a woman hurried past me. I think she was rushing to catch a bus – unfortunately the regular service bus had just left and the school bus was currently at the stop.
Anyway it was raining and she was wheeling a shopping trolley and carrying a bunched up umbrella in her hand. She must have decided that the umbrella wasn’t worth keeping because just before she passed me she chucked the umbrella on the ground as she hurried to the bus stop! (And no she didn’t accidentally drop it, it was the only thing she had in her hand and she quite deliberately threw it down).
I was taken aback because for one thing she was in late middle age, you would think she would know better by now. And our village is generally pretty tidy, it isn’t the kind of place where people routinely throw litter everywhere. And apart from that there is a litter bin at the bus stop!
Well of course I picked it up. It’s one of those multi-folding ones that fold up small enough to fit in a bag. A couple of the flimsy struts were bent but they weren’t actually broken and the metal is so pathetic I was able to bend them back into shape. Still, better than nothing. If a visitor gets caught in a sudden downpour we will be able to give them an umbrella to get home with!

She came down our little road but I didn't recognise her. I did wonder whether she was the offensive woman who subjected me to an hour-long monologue back in September. I don't know her at all to look at although I know her name and where she lives and I obviously know a lot more about her than I care about!

She must have been awfully frustrated; but she didn't have to litter.

That really was rude of her to just chuck the umbrella but good for you for picking it up and being able to reuse it.
