Eli's First Semester....

Hey there everyone, how are you all doing? Well, it is almost the end of the first semester of the school year. My son is in middle school now which has been a big change. He has 6 classes, and an advisory hour. They have 2 weeks left until Christmas break, which is also the end of the semester. That means finals are coming up and grades will be coming out. So far he does have an A in computers, math, and social studies. He was doing well in Science, but it is down to a C+. My worry is his F in honors language arts. I would like him to get a good grade so he can continue the honors class, but at this point just want him to pass and get the credit. They don't do summer school at least in middle school here. He is only failing because he does not finish his assignments that he has to write things using his mind. He passes the tests with A's so he understands the rules of English. His best friend has helped him in the past to bring up his grade to at least passing, and I am hoping he will help him in this last stretch... I don't really know how else to help him honestly. Update: They do have a final coming up in English, hoping he'll get an A and it will be enough to bring him up to passing. Image is mine - my son Eli.

@MommyOfEli2013 That's something that's not going to change. He will be required to use creative writing through high school. I wish him luck.

He is smart, just wish he would do better on the actually writing assignments - then he'd be passing.

He's become quite the handsome fellow, Mom. I hope he gets his grades up. Repetition helps. Good luck on that one.

I am hoping he'll get 100% on his english final and it will be enough to get him to passing marks. Only trouble with the studying during Christmas break is when they go back in January it'll be a new schedule/semester.

Have you asked his teacher how you could help him? Hopefully, that friend can aid him again with his work.

At parent teacher conferences...she said he could go to her at lunch, which he wouldn't. He could go to the tutoring after school with the high schoolers but he wouldn't do that either. She also said he could re-do any assignment...but then he tells us that he couldn't because she doesn't accept late work. I hope his best friend will too...they've been BFFS since like 2nd grade...

He sounds like he is doing well, just needs more time for completing assignments in the language arts. Talk to the teacher and principal about allowing him to sit in the office and work on them, giving him extra time. I was like this with algebra and being allowed extra time gave me good grades.

They already know he needs more time...because of his issues...well maybe that actually wasn't written down in the paperwork. But he was told he can re-do any assignment so he should redo the ones he has gotten Fs on. He could even do extra credit reports but he won't bring home the paper to do it.
