New Stargate series coming to Amazon Prime

I wonder if there are any Stargate fans lurking in some corner of mylot? I did a quick search of the tag "Stargate" and the people who used that tag before were last active many, many years ago. But just in case there are still a few out there... ... ... Have you heard the news? It was announced just about a couple of weeks ago that a new Stargate series will be coming out in Amazon Prime! (I'll try to link to that announcement on YouTube below.) Well, not soon. I think at earliest, it will come out in maybe 2028, but still... A new Stargate is coming out!!! And the thing that gives me some hope that it won't be something completely different from what I loved about Stargate, is that the old creators are the ones involved. So, hopefully, hopefully, this won't be a case of something new "destroying" the thing you loved before. Fingers crossed. And also, this means perhaps that it's about time to rewatch the movies and tv series again.

I've HEARD the name but never watched any of the shows. Are the old ones any good? (I can watch the old shows for free and will probably be able to watch the new ones for free when they come out, IF they're worth watching.)

Well, you're asking someone who, given the choices "Star Wars, Star Trek, or Stargate?" would say "Stargate, of course!!! " each and every time so... of course, I'll say they're good! But seriously, you will be the better judge than me, on what you would consider 'good'. So I will just suggest that at least you watch the original 1994 movie "Stargate", and at least the first episode of the first season of the first TV series "Stargate SG-1". And from there, you can decide whether it's something that caught your interest enough to continue or not. For me, I loved the Stargate movie. But I actually love the tv series more, because imo it did a great job expanding the story and the world. I love Stargate SG-1, and the first spin-off Stargate Atlantis. If you decide to watch it through, there will come a time you will have to watch both alternately as they overlap (around post season 7 of SG1). The second spin-off Stargate Universe is a little different. Have to admit I wasn't a big fan of that one. However, I thought it was starting to get interesting in its second season, before it got cancelled... ... ... So anyway, if you ever decide to give it a watch, let me know, or post about it. Would love to discuss.

@moirai I was always Star Trek myself but I have started watching Stargate the movie and am about half an hour into it. So far, it's holding my interest, which is better than some shows do. I wasn't enamored with all the spin-offs for Star Trek so it's no surprise that some spin-offs for Stargate aren't as good as they could be. As long as it holds my interest, I'll watch it. Thank you for the suggestion.

This is exciting news. It's because of Stargate that I write Science Fiction.

@just4him Ah. I mean, do you post them somewhere? I had a quick look at your books (search came up with a link for them through amazon, I think), but they didn't seem very sci-fi on the surface. So I was wondering if you put your sci-fi stuff elsewhere... Or are they private for now?

@moirai I have loved Richard Dean Anderson since MacGyver. If something had him in it, I knew it would be good.

Yup! He was one of the mains in the first tv series Stargate SG-1. I remember flipping through channels one day looking for something to watch, and I happen upon this scene which turned out to be the opening scene of the 1st episode of the 1st season of SG-1. It caught my attention because I've seen the movie before and I loved it, and now here's a scene with a stargate, and it's not from the movie. Oooooooh! And then after that opening, the credits start and the first name that comes up is Richard Dean Anderson. MacGyver!!! I thought that's it. I'ma stop flippin and watch this.

@AmbiePam Loved MacGyver. So much fun. Note how even today people say things like: "Well, I just took some stuff and MacGyvered this together..."

I know that Stargate is very popular but I have not seen any of the shows. And I hope that the new one does justice to the fans . It would be challenging for them to stand up to the bar of expectations.

Yup. I hope so too. I'm a bit optimistic right now because the old creators are the ones involved in the new show as well. It's not a guarantee, but maybe the chances are a little higher as opposed to if it's in the hands of completely new people. Like I said, fingers crossed.

Richard Dean Anderson as many of the long time members know I will watch anything he is acting in now. More than a few things have been fixed by a tv show long ago. The years have gone by to fast.
