The United States government has made it compulsory for travellers to submit 5-year social media account before they can be granted visas into the country. The new law will take effect immediately but many see it as an infringement on personal rights. What do you think about this?

I’ve researched about it and l guess it is being implemented by them for quite some time though they have not required submissions of usernames or identifiers before but now they may require that. For as long that you are not required to submit your password or they gaining access to your account l guess that is okay. And for as long as there’s nothing wrong with what you’re posting online then you have nothing to worry about them seeing your profile. I guess it’s one way of protecting their borders by knowing who they’re letting in their borders. I guess that is what social media is all about letting everyone know who you are anyway.

@ogbenishyna44 I think criticism must not one of their criterion for denying them visa. Maybe if youre advocating for constructive criticism it shouldn’t matter but if someone is openly anti American or espousing terrorism then that’s red flag. I guess if you’re not into anything American why would you want to be there and seek visa.

Nobody has time to check social media accounts in my country. It can only happen in the USA.
