Do you remember the first novel you ever read? If so, what was it?

I can only remember back to about 12 years old and falling in love with Nancy Drew books.
My parents had divorced and I got forced to move 2 hours away from my Dad and he bought a monthly subscription and once a month I got a new book.
Before that I kind of remember going to the library a lot and being a voracious reader, but I can't pinpoint any specific first novel I read.
Can you?
Any particular book changed your life?

No, I can't remember. Mom used to read to my youngest brother and I. She sat in a chair and we stood at her knees while she read to us. I thought she was skipping parts of the book so taught myself to read along with her. When I started Kindergarten, I'd turn the books upside down so I could read them. The teacher kept turning them right-side up... As soon as she walked away, I'd turn the book upside down and keep reading. She asked mom about it and mom explained.
I read a lot, even back then.
I loved The Hardy Boys when I was around 11 years old.

Great minds think alike. You were into The Hardy Boys at the same time I was into Nancy Drew. Cool!

@LooeyVille Our city librarian back then was a friend of my mom and she suggested I try The Hardy Boys. I enjoyed the series and she kept suggesting new books to me until she retired.

The books kept you good company Lou.
My first novel was at the age of 10 and I read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
I identified with the character Jo in the book..I became strong like her.

Once my mom took me to the library and I got my first library card I became a little bookworm and quickly went through all the picture books in the children's libraay and so I guess after that when I could really read among my fries book were the stories about Pepi Longstocking,

I always read a lot as a kid as well. Novel other than children's stories? I read Black Beauty when I was about 9. That book left an impression. It was a gift from my grandmother. My parents still have it. I was thinking I should read it again sometime, but parts of it are sad.

The only book that changed my life is the Bible.
The first novel I read was probably one of the Bobbsey Twins series. My brother did the Hardy Boys and I did the Bobbsey Twins.

The Little House on The Prairie Books were very special to me as a child. I also liked "Charlotte's Web".

@looeyville I remember starting to read voraciously in my 14th summer when we moved temporarily to a house across the road from a library. Then at 17 I read Crime and Punishment for the first time and have had my nose in a book ever since then. Anything by Dostoyevsky, Camus, Joyce, Hemingway is fair game. Right now I’m coming to the end of Valérie Perrin’s “Changer l’eau des fleurs”.
