Persistently hooting owl: Bad omen?

Beliefs and superstitions are common in almost every society. Inasmuch as religion and science try to dispel their existence, beliefs and superstitions seem to stick fast onto people and they keep being passed down from generation to generation. In our society for example, it is believed that when an owl persistently hoots within a certain homestead a bad omen is likely to be around the corner. A serious sickness and sudden deaths are the gravest expectations. Other expectations could include poor harvest or disagreement between or among family members. Is there any superstition associated with an owl where you come from? I would love to know!

Most superstitions are in Africa. We used to believe in other primitive things before religion was introduced.

@SIDIKIMPOLE I know in Third World countries there are still a lot of superstitions. They can be hard to get rid of.

@SIDIKIMPOLE Oh geez the list goes on, lol! Don't walk under a ladder, don't open an umbrella inside, don't put your shoes on the table, don't pick a penny up if it's tails up. I know there is more but I can't think of them all. LOL! Recently I went to a different eye doctor and when I was going to look in the machines for the preliminary exam I went to set my purse on the floor and the man stopped me and said, "You have to set it on the table." And I looked at him and said, "Ok, why?" And he said a woman that works there has a fit if they don't tell people that because if you set your purse on the floor it will steal your money. I replied, "What money?,lol"

Because owls were associated with the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology, people have taken to the myth that they are wise/smart. But did you know owls are dumb? So if an owl was bringing a bad omen, they’re so dumb, they’d probably be at the wrong homestead. I’d likely be inclined to believe the owl got the wrong address and I’m fine. But I’m not superstitious, so I don’t find them to be a harbinger of bad omens at all.

I am rather superstitious myself. I hate to hear of the owl getting this bad rep. I believe we have that same one here I just choose not to believe it.

Yes, at times it is safer not to believe than believe and get haunted.

I checked online and it says Good Omens: In some cultures, owl hooting is seen as a sign of good luck or spiritual guidance. It may indicate that someone is thinking of you or that you are about to receive important insights
