The Snowflake Man

Wilson Bentley, a Vermont farmer around 1885 became a weather scientist and photographer. He had been fascinated with snow and in his teenage years he viewed snowflakes under a microscope and developed his own technique in photographing them. He spent four decades photographing more than 5,000 unique flakes. He recorded climate conditions for each one and published his findings. He was nicknamed "The Snowflake Man" due to his crystal-clear images. Many of these are now at the Smithsonian.
