I'm loving the cold air that's swirling around Larne this afternoon. It feels like a long time since the air has been cold and it makes me remember late autumn in Madrid. That's the right time to be in Madrid or Paris, late autumn when the heat of summer has been forgotten and people are getting on with life and are no longer bad-tempered from the heat. I walked along the Cairncastle Road in the cold surrounded by teenagers getting out of school, boys proudly striding out with girls’ hands in theirs and the waif-like girls running to keep up on legs that are red with cold and dangle out of school skirts that have been hoisted up all the way to Honolulu, showing as much thigh as they can get away with.
