How Did the Christmas Colors We Enjoy Today Come About?

As with Halloween and its orange and black, and the Fourth of July and its red, white, and blue we tend to associate Christmas with red, green and white. But where did these colors originate? Red and green can be traced back to pagans as the Celts and other tribes admired and saw the holly plant as a sign of ongoing beauty. The vibrant red berries and the strong and health green leaves. These were a sign of prosperity and were used at wintertime festivals. Christianity expansion during its first 100 years took on these colors to establish a connection between the pagans and Christianity. And the blanket of white snow helped to lay the foundation for what is today the modern color scheme of the season.

Thanks for the info. So many of the Christmas cards feature holly berries and leaves.
