My high strung bark a cholic Rufus is not having a good evening. Far away booms started right after dark. His brain went into panic mode. Around 8 pm I gave him one of the anti anxiety pills that are generally reserved for the Fourth of July. About an hour after he took that pill he became sleepy and trembly. I hated to see him trembling- maybe too much pill?? but freaking out isn't fun either.
I made him and who cares?? Moxe dog go outside for their final bathroom break. Of course somebody near by let off a piercing boom!! And you bet Rufus demanded to be let back into the house. I am beyond grateful that he doesn't totally lose it and try to get off the property. Thank God for that. Anyway, hubby put Rufus's plaid moose sweater on Rufus in hopes it would somehow ease him. We're heading up to bed way sooner than midnight.
Happy New Year to who ever celebrates!!!! May all your companion animals be safe if not happy to be in a warm and loving home.

Poor guy. The 3 here right now don't pay any attention to that stuff. They do howl when they hear sirens.

Poor Rufus. My fried who lives in the country and runs a rescue always has to use calming chews on half the dogs because of the illegal fireworks.
Around midnight, fireworks briefly woke me, but Sadie and I turned right back over and went back to sleep.

I'm glad you could give Rufus something to help him with the anxiety.
I hope you all have a good night and a Happy New Year!

I feel sorry for Rufus. Poor Rufus, that sounds like such a stressful night for him and for you. Those sudden booms can really send sensitive dogs straight into panic mode. You did the best you could by giving him his anxiety medication to help him cope. That’s the best thing to do in these situations. Seeing him sleepy and trembly must have been hard, even though it sounds like it was helping overall. That outdoor boom timing was really unfortunate, no wonder he wanted right back inside. It’s such a relief that he doesn’t try to bolt when he’s scared. The plaid moose sweater was a sweet and loving touch, even if just for comfort. Heading to bed early sounds like the safest and calmest choice tonight. Happy New Year, and may all our furry companions stay safe, loved, and protected. Enjoy the time!

They make those "thunder shirts" for dogs to keep them calm during fireworks
