About Donald Trump's military service which seems to have been brought up a lot lately. This is around his "warrior dividend" of course, which the left will find fault with just like they find fault with pretty much anything Trump ever does.
Well, Trump did not serve. I guess this is an issue for the left. But neither did Joe Biden. But they'd have praised him for any efforts to award the military with one honor or another.
Kamala Harris never served in the military either. But they'd have given her a voteāeven though her and Joe had military members KILLED, which they were given a pass on by the way, in the withdrawal of Afghanistan.
Barack Obama never served in the military either. But he sure used the military for lots of operations. Hell, he even took credit for getting Osama Bin Laden, referring to the success as, "I got him." So much for the men who put their lives on the line to rid of us that foul terrorist.
Bill Clinton, another darling of the left, also never served in the military. No issues or problems there. Although he was okay to praise our service members and use our troops. The left was fine with it.
Out of 47 presidents (okay, 46 if you don't want to count Trump twice), 31 have served in the military. Here's who they were.
Let's not go all the way back to the start, but let's start with Abraham Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln, Republican
Andrew Johnson, Democrat
Ulysses S. Grant, Republican
Rutherford B. Hayes, Republican
James Garfield, Republican
Chester Arthur, Republican
Benjamin Harrison, Republican
William McKinley, Republican
Theodore Roosevelt, Republican
Harry S. Truman, Democrat
Dwight D. Eisenhower, Republican
John F. Kennedy, Democrat
Lyndon B. Johnson, Democrat
Richard Nixon, Republican
Gerald Ford, Republican
Jimmy Carter, Democrat
Ronald Reagan, Republican
George H.W. Bush, Republican
George W. Bush, Republican
So, of this list of 19 former military serving presidents, 14 were Republicans and 5 were Democrats.
It's fine to take issue with a president not having served. But of course, it can't be ONLY if you don't like that president, but give other presidents who reside in your own corner a pass, EVEN IF they honor, praise, or USE the military.
Just to keep the record straight, of course, as per the usual. I might also point out that one does not have to have served in the military in order to appreciate, honor, respect, or otherwise be patriotic toward our servicemembers.
In fact, MOST Americans DO NOT serve. The current number of active service members right now is 2.1 million. In a country of 350 million, that means 0.6% are currently serving in the military. In fact, in the last 10 years, only 6.1% have ever served.
93.9% of Americans do not serve or have never served. It does NOT mean they can't appreciate the military.

The actual figure is 8%. The population of PRISONERS that are veterans is 8%. That is true. The prison population is 1.2 million. That would mean that 96,000 are veterans. If the population of veterans is currently 6.1% of the total U.S. population, that would mean that there are 2.1 million veterans. 4.5% of veterans wind up incarcerated.
NOT 8% of the TOTAL U.S. population.
95.5% of U.S. veterans are law abiding citizens.
That's a very small number considering the entire percentage of incarcerated Americans as a whole is 0.6%.
57% are white.
38% are black.
3% are native American.
1.6% are Asian.
LOTS of narratives dispelled here. The majority of incarcerated people are black. NOT TRUE. Veterans make up a strong criminal element? Also. NOT TRUE.

It seems now Trump is unqualified to be president because he did not serve in the military. Although, many past presidents with a military background have been elected President, it does not mean they were all great choices. One example would be the terms of U.S. Grant marred by scandals. Other notable Presidents who have ranked at the bottom with regards to their effectiveness in the highest office are Franklin Pierce, Zachory Taylor, Andrew Johnson and Jimmy Carter (Navy).
Even though having a military background is considered a plus as Commander in Chief, an admirable quality among voters it does not guarantee successful foreign policy or effective leadership in the White House.

Any service men who offered their lives for their country must be honored by the President whether he has served the military or not. It's not the issue.
