Why is Europe considered less important than the US?

In Europe, there is an undeniable presence of varied culture. There are all sorts of customs, lifestyles, and languages in the land of Europe. In the US, only English rules the roost. Spanish has to go a long way still.
French and German are the two most crucial languages of Europe. If you learn both or either of the two, your life will hold in good stead. French is still widely used in many diplomatic settings and contexts.
I think that the rising importance of English has led to the dominance of America. But, the world cannot thrive without other rich European languages like French, Spanish, German, etc.

I don’t think America citizens see a Europe as less important than the United States. At least, the Americans I know, don’t.
But America is much larger than these individual countries. All together, they make up a large continent, but the United States is one large country.

Really? I thought they belittled the Americans most of the time.
I always saw them on movies that's why.

Its not less important and plus US is from Europe, people go with who has most money and it will not be us for long the way we going.
People can sniffle and scoff but you all are greedy.
I think Europe is doing great things on not being so greedy while bringing some of the best production the world has ever seen while treating their people the best anyone has ever seen. Even China Going, I think we treat our people better than the US.

English is not mandatory at the school level in Europe. In Europe, learning a minimum of 1 foreign language is a must. However, that foreign language need not be English. Students may choose French or German or some other non-English European language instead of English. That being said, it is true that most learners and education seekers opt for English.
I disagree that English is always necessary for exploring Europe. People with a reasonable knowledge of French can experience umpteen places in Europe. You should realize that French also holds the status of a working language in the United Nations Secretariat. Canada's Quebec region speaks French and a good chunk of the African continent speaks French. As far as Europe is concerned, Belgium, France and Switzerland speak French to a colossal extent. The bottomline is that French always has the potential to compete with English at the global level and at the European level.

@Presenthere - We all learn English in school now here in Europe. One foreign language is mandatory, but in most school it's two, and people get English because they know how important it is. I lived 26 years in Switzerland they speak 3 languages there, the three OFFICIAL languages. French is no more important. Where you are from?

well, the official language of the European Union is still English. it would be good to learn German but it's not that easy language and language centers are not cheap here, in my country but, personally, i wish some Germans would learn and use more English cause the new generation doesn't know German that well. There are so many languages in Europe; Norwegian, Swedish, Finish, Russian, Portuguese. i can't even count them...
Is Europe less important? I don't think so. everyone has right on their own opinion.
